In late 2007, four friends came together over a few drinks. They started putting together a store that could fill the void of some of the missing elements that shoppers in Victoria face. A store was created, changed, then changed again. On November 15th, 2008 it opened. This store is called Freedom.
Eric Kiauka, Julia Griffin, Michael Shewchuk and Dave Milne put together a mix of athletic, lifestyle and street clothing and shoes that people can't get around the city.
Oddly, the idea and mix don't just fill a void that Victoria has. During the last year it has become apparent that there are no similar stores in Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Portland and Seattle. This is what makes explaining the concept difficult to friends. To put it simply, this is an athletic store with an edge. You will be able to purchase running shoes, retro shoes, casual shoes, and lifestyle shoes under one roof.
Oh did we mention this athletic store has jeans? jackets? hoodies? and all the stuff that completes the lives we live. The wait is over. We are here.
Oh and by the way, we open at 11am. We don't like getting up early either.
